Charminster Route for Olympic Torch

The Olympic Torch Relay is hitting the streets of Bournemouth and will be coming through Charminster and Winton.

Everyone in the area can follow the route which starts on Wallisdown Road on the roundabout on Friday 13th at 6pm.

The torch will arrive from the west via Wallisdown Roundabout and travel along Wallisdown Road, past the University. It will then turn left at Boundary Road and travel towards Redhill. At the gyratory it will move down Ensbury Park Road to Winton and then down Wimborne Road through Winton High Street before turning left on to Alma Road.

If you can keep up, it will carry on along Alma Road to the Richmond Park Crossroads and turn right into Charminster Road. Then down through Charminster to Cemetery Junction where it will turn left along Lansdowne Road. The Torch will travel down to Lansdowne Roundabout before turning into Bath Road.

On Saturday, the torch will set off again from Bournemouth Pier and will head towards Christchurch through Pokesdown. The celebration continues into the evening too as a two and a half hour spectacular will be hosted on the pier for up to 10,000 guests. The show marks the finishing point of the route that day and viewers can witness the last torch bearer on-stage lighting the cauldron. The night which is currently being planned is set to show a number of live music and dance performances fit for all age ranges.

British Rapper Wretch 32 and 2010's Britain's Got Talent Runner up 'Twist and Pulse' are just two of several acts headlining the event, sponsored by the likes of Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB, Royal Bank of Scotland and Samsung.
